Decided was created to be the alternative show in your season that brings a ton of heart, weight and a message that will move your audience.  While the show contains a ton of laughs it is the powerful message behind the importance of staying 'you' that permeates the show.

But Decided was also written with its young cast in mind. Many of today's shows don't necessarily challenge its young cast with intent to grow them. Many characters have specific moments to push and stretch the young actor past what many of today's youth shows provide. Some examples:

​

• Deja must deliver a show-stopping number (Something New) where she decides to become someone different than herself. This number is sung from the foot of her bed with no choreography or movement, meaning the actress must compel the audience simply with acting and her voice.

• Brinley must perform a song (Just Freaking Breathe) that creates a wave of emotion. The first 1/3 is pure comedy, then the next 1/3 is a plea to her sister and the final 1/3 is all, loving-heart. A tall order for a 10-12 year old actress.

• Preston must deliver one of the show's most compelling moments in the last scene through a heartfelt monologue, not something that most musicals rely on.

• Sadie is a mean girl, so we think, that has the tables turned on her only to find herself in Deja's shoes and then back again to her normal self. An arc not normally found in youth productions.

• Four actresses must find a common bond to ensure that the essence of Deja is always on stage which means they are creating something together, not alone.

Additionally, three adult roles were added in hopes of adding some strong, seasoned actors to help elevate the young cast so they can learn from these performers during the rehearsal process and while on stage. 

​

Decided is truly a unique piece of theater that knows its audience; the extended families of those young actors performing on your youth and community stages. It will move them in all of the right ways, becoming a new favorite to come back to season after season.
